How are air freight companies paid?

How are small air freight companies paid? By pound, or some other way? How much do they recieve normally? Im talking about a caravan or a 206. can you be more specific?

1. by flight hour, edit to be more specific. say it takes 3 hours to go to point b from point a and back, then the customer is charged a rate for the flight based on the time it takes.
2. For regularly scheduled service, meaning that it isn't a special flight, airfreight is based on the size and weight of the package. Those are the main restrictions on cargo, and determine how much they can get on the plane, therefore they have determined formulae for prices based on the demensions and weight.
