Post, Freight and Carriers

What does the word "Freight Collect" means in shipping terms ?

  1. The common understanding of "Freight Collect" is that the receiver (or buyer) of the goods is to pay the freight charges upon receiving the goods. To be more technically correct, however, the FOB point (the point at which title passes from the shipper to the receiver) should also be specified. This would be done as: "FOB Shipping Point, Freight Collect", or "FOB Destination, Freight Collect". This is more complete because it specifies who owns the goods in transit, as well as who is to pay the freight charges. Hope this helps.
  2. Answer: It means that the freight cost (the cost of shipping) will be collected from the buyer.
  3. I, believe, it is where the 'company receiving' is responsible for payment. Which is billed to them!?
  4. My understanding is that Freight Collect is when the purchaser pays the freight bill directly to the carrier. So, the freight cost will not be included in an invoice.
